I am a psychologist, professor, and consultant with over 15 years of experience helping people navigate their personal journeys with empathy and empowerment.
I specialize in multicultural counseling, drawing on my understanding of diverse cultural backgrounds to offer support that’s both tailored and action-oriented. My approach is collaborative and grounded in helping you feel empowered and confident in creating change. Clinical Training
I received my PhD in Counseling Psychology in 2008 from the University of Iowa and have been in continual licensure as a Psychologist since 2009. I am a relational, culturally-responsive psychologist who is an Associate Professor at Columbia University. Using cognitive, multicultural, and interpersonal interventions, I am committed to client care that centers empathy, empowerment, and change.
I have clinical expertise in a variety of treatment modalities, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT), Couples Therapy, Racial Cultural Therapy, LGBTQ health, women's issues, and minority stress, my approach to treatment is client centered that is aimed at empowering you to create meaningful, sustainable changes in your life.
Academic Work
I am an Associate Professor within the Department of Counseling & Clinical Psychology at Teachers College, Columbia University. As the EdM Program Director, I instruct and mentor students and oversee curriculum design and program initiatives. My work helps prepares students to address diverse mental health needs in a variety of settings. Recent courses instructed include Theories of Counseling, Research and Independent Study in Psychological Counseling, Foundations of Counseling, and Group Counseling.
